‘Nonsuch Big Band, Gardens of Nonsuch Mansion, Friday 4 June 2010

The 2010 Nonsuch Big Band in the Park event was a big success.   Profits will be divided evenly between two charities – Friends of Nonsuch and Nonsuch Rotary.  The event is run by Nonsuch Rotary Club for the Friends of Nonsuch.  Early figures below are estimates so subject to revision

  • Total attendance (paying and complimentary etc) estimated at just under 1,000 – a record
  • Picnickers started arriving before 5.30 pm on a beautiful warm early summer’s evening
  • Richard Stevenson from Carshalton entertained early arrivals on classical guitar – his first appearance
  • Jay Craig’s Orchestra played a wide variety of Big Band music from 7.15 pm perfectly tailored to the mood of his large audience
  • The two Vocalists, Louise Cookman and Matthew Ford, were very popular
  • As the evening progressed more and more dancers took to the ’floor’
  • The applause and the ’Thank You’s’ from the audience as they left were profuse, showing how much everyone had enjoyed the event
  • Over £2,000 was raised from a raffle with prizes donated mainly by Epsom business people
  • Total profits (to be announced) will be divided equally between the  Friends of Nonsuch charity and Nonsuch Rotary charities.
  • Nonsuch Rotary will give a proportion of their share to the Sutton Guardian’s ‘Operation Butterfly’ for the new Cancer Information and Support Service at St Helier Hospital and the remainder will go to local charities
