Swimathon 2010 at Epsom College

Nonsuch Rotary’s annual Swimathon will be held on Saturday 6th November 2010 at Epsom College , who have offered for the second year the use of its superb 25 metre pool on the Epsom College Campus in College Road Epsom. (Follow the Epsom College link above for directions).

Our Swimathon helps local organisations and charities to raise funds for their own purposes as well as supporting Rotary charities. We have aways been well supported by local schools such as Rosebery School in Epsom and Nonsuch High School in Cheam but any local group/company interested in raising funds for charity is welcome to enter one or more teams.
The idea is simple. Teams collect sponsorship from friends, relatives and supporters for a 30 minute sponsored swim. Nonsuch Rotary, under the leadership of Colin Kennedy, who organises the event and the proceeds from sponsorship are split 50/50 between the local group and Rotary charities. Last year a total of 28 teams and 119 swimmers swam a total of 3798 lengths which equated to 94.95 kilometers or 59 miles!

Rotary provides all the documentation including sponsorship forms and a certificate upon completion of the swim and free refreshments are available to swimmers.

Forms are available for download via the links below or contact Colin Kennedy for further information on 01737 243509 or email nonsuchswim@aol.

YOUTH SPEAKS 2010

In congratulating the 21 competitors at Nonsuch Rotary’s recent Youth Speaks competition, Chris Forkan told them, “It was appropriate that one of the topics chosen tonight was ‘Courage’ because that is what it took from all of you to stand and deliver in front of the public and your peers and to do it so well.”  Appropriately, it was the winning team from Wilson’s School, Delwyn the speaker, Bramam the Chair and Fanuel Vote of Thanks who chose to speak about ‘Courage’.  Afterwards members of the winning team said how much they enjoyed hearing the other teams and their topics which they found really interesting.

‘Rotary Youth Speaks’ is a popular annual event which gives youngsters an opportunity to display their public speaking skills in front of an audience, in competition with students from other local schools
